Apple Cake with Sticky Sauce


Ingredients for Cake:
Flour 2 cups
Baking Powder 1 tsp
Baking Soda 1/2 tsp
Salt 3/4 tsp
Cinnamon Powder 2 tsp
Nutmeg Powder 1/2 tsp
Cloves Powder 1/4 tsp
Apples (peeled and diced) 4 cups
Lemon Juice 1 tbsp
Caster Sugar 1 cup
Brown Sugar 1/4 cup
Unsalted Butter 1/2 cup
Eggs 2
Chopped Walnuts 1/2 cup
Sticky Brown Sugar Sauce:
Unsalted Butter 1/2 cup
Brown Sugar 1 cup
Milk 1/4 cup
Salt 1/4 tsp
Vanilla Essence 1/2 tsp
Method
Mix together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves. In a separate bowl toss apple cubes with lemon juice, set aside. Beat butter, add caster sugar, brown sugar, and add eggs one at a time. Slowly add in flour mixture and mix just until combined (batter will be really thick). Add apples and mix. Pour batter into greased and lined tin and spread into an even layer. Bake at 180 degrees C in a preheated oven until toothpick inserted into center comes out clean about 35 minutes. Let cool about 5 minutes then cut into squares and serve warm topping each slice with sauce and walnuts. For the sauce: In a saucepan combine butter, brown sugar, milk and salt.
